California pageant contestants raise money for animal shelter

Contestants for Miss California USA and Miss Teen California USA raised $2,600 for the Gentle Barn Animal Rescue effort, Steps4Paws announced Feb. 13 in an emailed news release.

The animal rescue organization is part of Sledge USA, a long-time sponsor of the state pageant.

The pageants are part of the Miss Universe Organization, which owns the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants. The pageants are co-owned by Donald Trump and NBC Universal.

"It was natural to bring in this new fashion brands 'Fashion Rescues' Campaign to align with the Miss California USA, bringing them forward to the rescue organizations it supports," Steps4Paws said.

The organization is recruiting other celebrities to help. Among those the organization said have donned "Loyal + True" tees and promoted animal welfare via social media platforms are Frank Stallone, Terrel Owens, Bella Thorne, Bebe Wood, Ellen De Generes, Gilles Marini, Booboo Stewart among other TV and movie stars.

The Steps4Paws women's and men's collection is scheduled to hit retail stores nationwide Spring, 2013.

"The trendy tops feature animal graphic designs that are sure to spark attention, and just when you think it can’t get better than that, Steps4Paws will be donating partial proceeds to help save animals," the company said.

The clothing line helps people "be fashionable and save lives at the same time," the company said.
