California man wrestles giant lobster bare-hands to claws

It may not be clear about who actually caught who, but in the end, 27-year old Joseph Ali ended up with an 18-pound lobster, estimated to be close to“three years his senior,” after free-diving off Zack’s Pier in Huntington Beach, CA last Monday.

According to Ali, he had just closed up his father’s business at the pier plaza for the night, when he got the sudden urge to dive into the ocean for his dinner. He stated that the water was calm and he was chasing a smaller lobster about 15 feet deep,(even though he did not have an air tank), when he spotted the giant crustacean.

“While it was too big for me to grab properly, it ended up taking hold of me, and I kind of wrestled it to shore,” he told a reporter from the Orange County Register. Either, way, he ended up with the “catch of a lifetime.”
