The judge in Lindsay Lohan's "lying to the police" case has said that Mark Heller -- who is based out of New York -- is incompetent to practice law in California. Michael Lohan, upon hearing this, found a California lawyer to join the case, and on Tuesday, we found out his name.
California attorney David Wohl wants to join New York attorney Mark Heller when Lindsay's case reaches court on March 18.
Michael Lohan found Wohl, who has practiced criminal defense law for 25 years and has offices in Orange County. He is reportedly ready to jump in and help on the case.
While there's been no official statement indicating that Heller and Wohl were joining forces, it might be a requirement. Not only did Judge Jim Dabney call Heller incompetent during Lohan's March 1 pre-trial hearing, he gave the New York lawyer an ultimatum: bring a California criminal defense attorney with him, or make Lohan waive her right to a competent lawyer.
While Wohl, who has handled criminal cases as small as shoplifting and as big as murder, has been in daily contact with Heller, there is a problem. Sources say that Lindsay Lohan hasn't approved Wohl. Those same sources, though, say Lindsay's father Michael has asked Wohl to appear in court anyway.
The trial stems from Lohan's "lying to the police" case. Last summer, the troubled actress said she was not driving her rented Porsche when it rear-ended a truck. She was, in fact, driving.
The charges also set off a probably violation in her earlier jewelry theft case. If convicted, Lohan faces up to 19 months in jail and 245 days for the probation violation.
