It’s barely 24 hours since West defeated East at Fenway Park last night in the Cape Cod Baseball League All Star game, and no one in the crowd of more than 10,000 was more excited to be there than Y-D Red Sox and Fresno State first baseman Jordan Ribera.
Undrafted despite leading all of Division 1 in home runs with 27, the California product didn’t know he was coming to the Cape until two days before he arrived there, and he’s since put up such numbers (a league-best 7 homers, 7 doubles, and 1 triple) that he’s more than made the most of his opportunity to show major league scouts what they missed.
Click the arrow below to hear an exclusive interview with the budding young star as he anticipates the All Star Home Run Derby (in which he was predictably challenged, as a left-handed hitter, by Fenway’s unique geometry), traces his fast-track from college to the Cape, and explains the curious nickname he was given by his host father.
