California Democrats seek approval from voters to grant amnesty

While the DREAM Act failed on a national stage, California State Democrats would like to skirt federal law and provide a pathway to citizenship for those who are illegally residing in the Golden State.

State Assembly Bill 78, written by Tony Mendoza (D-Norwalk) seeks to put an advisory measure on the state ballot asking California voters if they think the United States is responsible to grant amnesty to longtime illegal aliens currently living unlawfully inside America.

The Democrat’s proposed “pathway to citizenship bill” would give illegal aliens who have worked in the U.S. for five years, have no felony convictions, speak English and are current with all their taxes a chance to legalize their status.

The bill’s author, Mendoza claims the illegal immigration debate is front-page news across the country and says the nation's "broken immigration system" requires an overhaul that "rewards work, reunites families, restores the rule of law, reinforces immigrant workers and redeems the 'American Dream.'"

The Southern California Democrat hopes the measure will qualify for California’s statewide primary election in June 2012.

Typical Mexifornia and the Mexican Mafia in action.

Just a matter of time before these thugs just declare this Mexican territory. Good thing I stocked up on ammo. We're ready for the next Mexican-American war. Anytime, amigos.

Since when did the federal government turn over its authority to give citizenship to states? Perhaps California is seceding? We'll just have to secure the common borders and fence out California from Arizona, Nevada and Oregon. We can certainly make better use of Colorado River water and Nuclear Power.

There are many reasons CA is broke, but supporting the illegals is the main reason. I would love to give this state, all their illegals, the Hollywood bafoons back to Mexico. Hopefully all the illegals in all our other states will head to CA to become legal ONLY IN THAT STATE.

You're an idiot. Have you ever been to Yosemite, Death Valley, or Joshua National Park? What about the Marine Sanctuary off Balboa? What about the tourmaline mines in Pala? I guess none of this is worth protecting? We should just run & give it all away? We should be cowards & sacrifice a huge section of this country & a huge part of our history (gold rush, Donner Pass, "go west, young man!")?

Whatever, dude. You may as well be a La Raza member w that attitude.

IF they include in the bill that NO illegal who has had an anchor baby or received ANY kind of social service (other than education) is to be allowed citizenship, that might work. The vast majority of those living in CA have, so NONE of them would qualify. And just how do lawbreakers have NO felony convictions?

I sure hope this PoS bill gets on the ballot so California voters can give it the treatment it so justly deserves: to be shot down in FLAMES!

Is this legal? This sounds unbelievable to me. I hope the citizens vote No if it is on the ballot

Why not? California is already ruined. Just be sure your keep the criminals (all illegals) within your state. The rest of the country doesn't need them.

How can California break the rule of federal law? Isn't that what Obama claimed Arizona was doing with their bill (which, of course, is in compliance with federal law)?

  • Rachel123 1 year ago

It is not legal and in fact it violates the Supremacy Clause of the US Constitution. The states do not have the authority to grant legal status to those here illegally, it is strictly a federal power.

Tony Mendoza is just grandstanding for political points with Latinos.

Before we take his word for it that our immigration system is broken, Mendoza should have to produce all the immigration laws currently on the books and prove they are not workable. Our laws were written to protect our country, our population growth, the American citizens, our health and the American tax payer. Immigrants that come here are supposed to be able to support themselves or have a sponsor that is responsible for them so that they do not become a burden to the American people. Instead, what has happened? Our country and our States are going bankrupt and much of that debt is due to our taxes supporting illegal aliens instead of taking care of American interests. This is wrong and it needs to end NOW! DEMAND ANSWERS!

  • Debbie 1 year ago

All of them are working under phony ID's which is a crime and yet we are supposed to give them citizenship and forget the jobs and ID's they've stolen? There's no way to even know who they really are because their own country, especially Mexico will lie and say they have a clean background. Just like when they issue Maticular cards. They give them to anyone who shows up to get one! Our government wouldn't even bother with checking these people out anyway.

Mexico is not a poor country! The wealth goes to the corrupt politicians! AND college is free in Mexico unlike here. This is from a news source in Mexico...this is what we are importing and one reason why our schools are becoming third world cesspools!
    El Economista (Mexico) 1/4/2011

    33 Million Mexicans Lack Education

The Director of the National Institute for Adult Education said that according to the 2009 census, 5.8 million or 7% of the population are illiterate, 10 million have no Primary and 17 million no Secondary
education. He continued that after age 40, this lack of schooling is more accentuated. He also noted that the count does not include the non-Spanish speaking indigenous. Among reasons for the young leaving school are today’s low salaries even with a high school and college education.

Let me see....if the Dream Act is voted on in the state of California does this
mean the illegal alien residence will vote in California illegally?

You don't think they would vote illegally do you? Illegal aliens
vote in a U.S. election? Naw!

"State Assembly Bill 78, written by Tony Mendoza (D-Norwalk) seeks to put an advisory measure on the state ballot asking California voters if they think the United States is responsible to grant amnesty to longtime illegal aliens currently living unlawfully inside America."

    What's this "advisory" crap?

  • Clarence E. DeBarrows 1 year ago

The "American Dream" is reserved for Citizens and those here legally. If California wants to do something sensible and worthwhile to ensure the continuation of that "Dream", SIDE WITH ARIZONA TO CLOSE THE BORDER!
