If you love beer and you love the blues then you probably already know that it’s almost time again for the California Beer Festival. This year the event will be held on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22, 2013 in Mission Park in Ventura, California. The wild, wet your whistle weekend event consists of the Craft Beer Festival on Saturday (12:30-5:30 p.m.) and the Blues & BBQ Festival on Sunday (11:00 a.m. -6:00 p.m.).
Festival founder Vincenzo Giammaco said: "I had a vision, to create and produce an original Signature Beer Festival that, in turn, (would) create a huge economic boom in the local economy, raise money for great non-profits and shine a light on the craft beer movement.” Breweries competing this year include: Anacapa Brewery, The Lab Brewing Company, LadyFace Ale House, Surf Brewery, CBF Burt's Banana Hefeweizen, and Firestone Brewery. Giammaco was pleased about the celebration’s return to Mission Park as well.
He stated: “We’re happy to be back in downtown Ventura for our fifth year for the California Beer Festival! Ventura CBF is one of the largest beer festivals in the state and a great place to come sample amazing craft beer from all over the world.” Saturday’s live entertainment will include the Michael Jackson Tribute band Foreverland, Venutra’s homebrown groove-meisters Shaky Feeling, the indie tribute act Black Crystal Wolf Kids, the L.A.-based Grouplove, the Boston-born Pixies, alt-rock icons Cracker and Phoenix on Pavement.
He also noted, however, that Sunday’s Blues & BBQ Festival "caters to families”. He said the event “is an original experience where guests get to bring their blues chairs and blankets, sip on some suds, sample great barbeque and listen to an all-star blues lineup.” The festival’s fifth year playbill will include: Ana Popovic (in a rare California appearance), award-winning guitarist Robben Ford, blues singer-songwriter Carolyn Wonderland, Michael John and the Bottom Line, The Alastair Greene Band and The (explosive) Bomb.
The day will also include a 5K Run and Blue Moon BBQ Cook Off. Giammaco promises “a fun day of good people and great barbeque. Numerous barbeque teams—both amateur and professional—will compete for $3,000 in cash prizes as guests sample their wares and cast their vote for “The People’s Choice.”
Don't forget, this weekend happening is part of the week-long Ventura County Beer Week, from September 15-22, with activities across the city. Ticket prices are as follows: Saturday's Craft Beer Heaven, $50.00; Sunday's Blues & BBQ Fest, $30.00; Designated Driver Ticket (Saturday only), $25.00; V.I.P. 3-Day Pass (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), $145.00 and may be purchased at www.californiabeerfestival.com/ventura.php#anchor.
Everyone is encouraged "to come and enjoy the food and music as much as the beer." Indeed, if it is anything like last year’s fest, it will be a memorable, music-filled event where the beer is cold and both the meat and music will be "smokin'."
My name is Phoenix and . . . that's the bottom line.
