That is right the opener for the A Zone deer Archery season was yesterday 12th of July!
The archery season runs until August 3, 2014.
The General season opens on August 9, 2014 and runs until September 21, 2014.
Full camouflage is the usual mode of dress during this hot hunting season, as are moccasins and or heavy socks for stealth. One would hope that all archery hunters have already been practicing with their bow to develop what is regarded as muscle memory and improve accuracy. It is too late now!
A reminder that hunting with a firearm on your person during an archery season is prohibited, even for self protection. Be aware that most things that can hurt you are most likely to be more afraid of you than you are of them and will probably run at the first smell or sight of you.
Another reminder that the temperatures in some of the A zone is expected to reach close to 100 degrees during this season, so carry and drink plenty of water, as dehydration can affect your ability to shoot accurately.
Since much of the A zone is private land, be sure that you have written permission to hunt on the land if you are lucky enough to obtain such permission. For the rest of us we must be satisfied hunting in the Los Padres National Forest, Fort hunter Liggett or Camp Roberts.
