Intersection for the Arts and the California Shakespeare Theater come together this fall to co-produce the Califas Festival, a six week-long immersive, story-filled play yard of music, visual art, performance, and more in and around Intersection’s headquarters at 5M (5th and Mission) in San Francisco. Working together through their research and development wing The Triangle Lab, Cal Shakes and Intersection continue to cross boundaries in their art-making.
The festival emphasizes the creation of new works and has songs from seven California jazz greats. Each was asked, “What does your California sound like?” You can hear the answers for yourself at the free Off the Grid concert series presented in the Minna Street Tunnel near Fifth Street. The series takes place alongside the weekly Off the Grid roaming mobile food court and all are invited to feed their body and souls over lunch. Here is the lineup:
Today: Kasey Knudsen Quartet
October 11: Melecio Magdaluyo Quartet
October 18: Darren Johnston Trio
October 25: Terrence Brewer Trio
November 1: Destiny Muhammad Jazz Trio
November 8: Howard Wiley Trio
November 15: Scott Amendola Quartet
