Calif. woman pleads not guilty to killing boyfriend's child with chili powder

On Jan. 10, 2013, Apple Valley, Calif. woman Amanda Sorensen, pleaded not guilty to killing her boyfriend’s toddler daughter with chili powder.

KTLA reports that Sorensen, 21, is charged with first degree murder and child abuse causing the death of Joileen Garcia, 2.

Police arrived at the child’s home after receiving a call regarding a child suffering from a seizure following the ingestion of chili powder.

Joileen died after being taken to the hospital, according to authorities.

An autopsy has yet to be performed on the girl to determine her exact cause of death, reports KTLA.

Sorensen remains jailed on $1 million bail and is slated to return to court on Jan. 17.
