A teen father, irritated over the constant whining of his one-month old son, reportedly bit the nose off of the infant while severely hurting him to the point where doctors later determined the child suffered a skull fracture and a brain hemorrhage.

According to a report from The Associated Press on Saturday, 18-year-old Joshua Cooper “was being held Friday in the Solano County Jail on suspicion of child cruelty and aggravated mayhem,” Calif. Fairfield police said in a statement.

The infant’s mother, a 17-year-old, called police shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday morning, reportedly “hysterical” about her son’s injuries and telling paramedics that her son wouldn’t stop bleeding from the nose.

EMTs and police responded to an apartment home on the 1000 block of Alaska Avenue and rushed the baby to North Bay Medical Centre, and then on to Oakland's Children's Hospital, where doctors found head trauma and determined that part of his nose had been completely severed.

Fairfield Police said in their statement:

The criminal investigation determined that the infant’s father had bitten the child’s nose off out of frustration from the infant crying. The investigation continues to determine how the infant sustained the skull fracture and brain hemorrhage.

"There was a substantial amount of blood," Fairfield Police Sgt. Troy Oviatt said. "It was a fairly gruesome scene."

Neighbors expressed their shock at the grisly incident.

"It's terrible. It's terrible. Literally heartbroken. I can't believe it," one neighbor said who declined to be identified.
