In an exclusive interview with Examiner.com Friday, Rodney Lee Conover, a Republican candidate running for Congress from California's Eighth Congressional District, predicted a huge GOP victory in 2014 and said people will be shocked.
"Establishment types are gonna get beat," he said, adding that the result will "make 2010 look like child's play."
"I look at it like this," he added. "It's the apex of a 60-year slide and it's time for the adults to take over."
Conover, who said he worked for a time as a speechwriter for Herman Cain after a career as a stand-up comic, actor, producer and writer, is running against Rep. Paul Cook, R-Calif., a former Marine he describes as a "real RINO," a term that means "Republican in Name Only."
"He's a nice guy. I like him, a lot," he said of Cook. "It's his voting record."
For example, he said, Cook voted to fund Obamacare, but sent a mailer saying he opposes the massive health care law.
He also said Cook supports the recent two-year budget deal hammered out between Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc. and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash. The deal passed the House with an overwhelming bipartisan majority.
Conover also said Cook supports amnesty for illegal immigrants and expanded powers for the NSA.
"If you let Paul Cook cast a vote for illegals," he said, the Eighth District will be turned into a Democratic district.
"He's the only California Republican who refused to sign the no business tax pledge," Conover added. "It defies explanation."
On Obamacare, Conover said that votes to repeal the law won't work as long as Democrats hold the Senate and the White House, while suggesting a Constitutional solution.
"The House has the power of the purse, and the House has the power and the duty to defund it," he said, citing Article I of the Constitution.
Calling House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, a "wiley" lawmaker who holds the money for GOP candidates, Conover said he believes establishment Republicans actually want Obamacare because it gives them a "solid issue" to run on.
Boehner recently lashed out at GOP conservatives who oppose the two-year budget deal.
But Conover said that if conservatives stand on principle, people will follow them.
"All they'd have to do is stand on principle and the country would stand behind them," he said.
