In an announcement made on Thursday by Hockey Canada, Calgary will host the 2013 National Women's under-18 Hockey Championship.
The national championship will take place from November 6-10 at the Markin McPhail Centre at Calgary's Canada Olympic Park.
This will be the first time the National Women's under-18 Hockey Championship will be held in Alberta. The first championship was in Trois Rivieres, Quebec in 2001.
Eight teams participate in the event. There are two teams from Ontario, in addition to provincial teams from Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec, and a regional all-star team from Atlantic Canada.
In other junior hockey news from the Calgary region, the Okotoks Oilers are set to begin their Alberta Junior Hockey League South Division semi-final tonight in Okotoks against the Camrose Kodiaks. The Oilers are coming off a tough three games to two series win over the Olds Grizzlys in round one of the South Division playoffs. The Kodiaks meanwhile defeated the Calgary Mustangs three games to one in round one of their series.
