Calgary to close public golf course in 2014

According to Sherri Zickefoose of the Calgary Herald, the city of Calgary is making plans to close McCall Lake Golf Course in 2014.

The reason for the closure is so the city can possibly implement an industrial area and a recreational campus.

Located in northeast Calgary, McCall Lake Golf Course is 263 acres and located off of Deerfoot Trail and 32nd street.

The golf course fee structure is also apparently going to be revised.

Currently the fees are $41.00 for an adult during the week, $33.50 for a senior or junior during the week with prices at $46.00 for adults and $45.00 for seniors and juniors on the weekend.

However it is the nine hole course where McCall Lake Golf Course is very popular among beginner golfers. The rates are $15.00 for adults, $12.00 for seniors and $11.00 for juniors.

With the announcement made by the city of Calgary today, there will remain five public courses in Calgary. They are Maple Ridge Golf Course, Shaganappi Point Golf Course, Confederation Park Golf Course, Lakeview Golf Course and Richmond Green Golf Course (closed in 2013 for a water service infrastructure upgrade).
