Calgary Teachers' Convention February 11, 12, and Family Day on Monday means five days of no school

The annual two-day Teachers' Convention has an impressive list of topics and keynote speakers, including (Retired) General Romeo Dallaire, broadcaster Peter Mansbridge, Olympic swimmer Mark Tewksbury, and ... what do you call Rex Murphy?  Intellectual at large, perhaps.  Good guess: Murphy's own website says "Social Commentator and Editorialist."

Teachers are legally required to attend the convention unless they apply for special permission to do alternate professional development activities.

It looks like a packed two days.  Over 10,000 people come to this conference annually.

So, if you ever wondered what the Teachers' Convention is all about, now you know.

And, it kicks off a long weekend, since Monday, February 15 is Family Day.  No school.

Valentine's Day, of course, is on Sunday, February 14.
