According to www.draftsite.com on Friday, Calgary native Brayden Point of the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League is projected to be drafted in the first round, 19th overall in the 2014 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Point is coming off an excellent 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial hockey tournament for team Canada where he registered a goal and three assists in five games. The statistics do not include an important shootout goal Point scored against Switzerland in a 4-3 victory last Wednesday.
Canada defeated the United States 4-0 in the gold medal game this past Saturday in Piestany, Slovakia. It was the sixth straight year team Canada won the gold medal in the under-18 hockey tournament. Point was one of two players on team Canada to come away with a gold medal. Point was joined by Calgary Hitmen left wing Jake Virtanen.
Point, a center, had 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points in 67 games for the Warriors last season.
