According to the Canadian Hockey League website on Friday, there are five Calgary connections for the players who will be playing in the 2014 Top Prospects Game in Calgary on January 15.
Jake Virtanen and Ben Thomas of the Calgary Hitmen have both been selected to play for Team Orr, coached by former Flames captain Lanny McDonald. So far this season, Virtanen, a left winger from Abbotsford, British Columbia, leads the Hitmen with 17 goals and six power play goals. Thomas, a defenseman from Calgary, has two goals and 14 assists for 16 points and is a +3 on a Hitmen squad that leads the Eastern Conference with 45 points.
Also in the game are Sam Reinhart, son of former Calgary Flame Paul Reinhart, Calgary native Brycen Martin of the Swift Current Broncos and High River native Conner Bleackley of the Red Deer Rebels.
Reinhart, a center for the Kootenay Ice, will play for Team Cherry, coached by Jim Peplinski. So far this season, Reinhart, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, leads the Ice with 34 assists and 50 points.
Martin, a defenseman, will play for Team Orr. Martin has two goals and 19 assists for 21 points, and Bleackley a center, will play for Team Cherry. Bleackley leads the Rebels with 16 goals, 22 assists and 38 points.
