Calgarians win bronze in World Cup luge on Olympic track

According to the Calgary Sun, four Calgary lugers appear very comfortable on the host track of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

That is because on Sunday, Calgary's Sam Edney, Tristan Walker, Alex Gough and Justin Snith won the bronze medal at a World Cup luge team relay event at Sochi, Russia.

The Canadians posted a time of 2:51.954. They were 0.582 seconds faster than Team Latvia for a podium finish. The German foursome of Tatjana Hufner, Andi Langenhan, Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt won the gold medal with a time of 2:51.553, while the Russian foursome of Tatiana Ivanova, Albert Demchenko, Vladislav Yuzhakov and Vladimir Makhnutin won the silver medal with a time of 2:51.709.

Expectations are starting to get higher for Edney, Gough, Walker and Snith with the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi a year away. Canada has never won an Olympic medal in luge in the history of the Olympic Winter Games, but it appears things may change as the luge team relay event will be making its Olympic debut.
