Calgarians medal at Winter X Games Friday

It was a great day for two Calgarians Friday at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado.

According to the Winter X Games website, Calgary native Roz Groenewoud finished in second place in the women's ski superpipe competition by posting a result of 86.66 points. Megan Gunning, who was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but raised in Calgary. finished in third place with a score of 85 points.

Maddie Bowman of the United States won the women's ski superpipe competition with 91.33 points.

Groenewoud, who is known for her excellent height in competition, won the women's ski superpipe competition at the Winter X Games in 2012 by honouring her late teammate Sarah Burke.

Groenewoud also has won the 2011 FIS World Championship in Park City, Utah in her specialty, the women's ski halfpipe, which will be making its Olympic debut at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Gunning meanwhile has rebounded nicely after tearing her ACL in 2011.

The Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado continues throughout the weekend.
