Jan 4, 11, 18 & 25: Ajili's Salsa con Salsa at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Isla Verde- A fun-filled dinner-buffet and variety show extravaganza starting at 7 p.m., featuring Ajili Mójili’s topnotch Puerto Rican cuisine, two Rums of Puerto Rico libations, Guamanique’s folkloric troupe presentation to showcase our music -and to finish it all— a-one-of-a-kind salsa and plena dancing session. Jan 5: Christmas Sunday at La Fortaleza garden in Old San Juan – The gates to the gardens of the Executive Mansion will open to the general public with a series of educational and cultural concerts for the whole family. The festivity will be held from 5-7 p.m. Doors open at 3:30 pm. No coolers or alcoholic beverages are allowed. The concert integrates popular folk music, carols and traditional songs and performances. Admission is free of charge.
Jan 5: Traditional Reyes Concert – Due to the local Three Kings (three wise men) celebration, witness the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra perform a traditional concert with the participation of talented kids and teens playing a special repertoire alluding to the holiday season. Jan 5-6: Fiesta de Reyes Isabelinos – Enjoy the 18th celebration of the Three Kings in Isabela at this festival filled with live music, a pilgrimage parade with living Christmas scenes on Monday, Christmas caroling, art workshops, handicrafts exhibitions, photo opportunities with the Three Kings, raffles and many surprises. Admission is free of charge.
Jan 12: Heifer Festival (Festival de la Novilla) & Patron Saint Festival in San Sebastián – Located in Porta del Sol, this festival features typical food, live music and dance performances, and a parade in an effort to maintain alive Puerto Rican culture, customs, traditions. Some of the main characters in this parade are Don Pepe, the town crier; the heifer (la novilla); and la Titina¸ representing the countrywoman from old times who would come and participate in the festival. Admission to this festival is free of charge.
Jan 16-19: San Sebastián street festival in Old San Juan – Major community event based in the culture, traditions, and traditional arts in its entire splendor. Enjoy a giant head puppets parade during its opening on Thursday, typical food, live music, and handicrafts exhibitions. Expect major traffic and large crowds attending this festival. Admission is free of charge.
Jan 24 & 25: Puerto Rico Jazz Jam at Alejandro Tapia y Rivera Theater in Old San Juan – Listen to some of the greateast exponents of Puerto Rican Jazz. Come see Elias Santos from Celpa Jazz Band and Raymond Torres Quintet on Friday, or Daniel Ramirez & In the Wrong, Latin Jazz Jam Humberto Ramirez (Willie Rosario / Roberto Roena / Bobby Valentine / Justo Almario / Eddie Montalvo / Luis Marín). Concert starts at 8 p.m. Admission is $15 (including taxes and service charges) and tickets can be purchased online through TicketCenter.
Jan 25: Video Games Music Concert at Centro de Bellas Artes in Santurce – Starting at 7 p..m and under the direction of Emanuel Olivieri, enjoy a program of masterfully played pieces of the favorite video games of all ages. Tickets available online at $20 and $30 through Ticketpop.
Jan 30 & 31: The Original Harlem Globetrotters Fans Rule World Tour: For the first time fans will have the opportunity to choose new rules of basketball games Harlem Globetrotters "Fans Rule" World Tour. All visitors may witness in Humacao, Juana Diaz, these exceptional athletes achieve compliance with these new creative rules selected by fans. Thursday, January 30th for the first time in Humacao Arena; Friday, Jan. 31 at the Coliseum in Juana Diaz and Sunday, Feb 2 in Quebradillas. Games start at 8 p.m. Tickets available online through TicketCenter.
