On April 25, 2014, at approximately midnight, a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputy conducted a stop on a truck near the intersection of Broussard Road and Patton Street in Sulphur for a traffic violation.

When the deputy approached the truck and spoke with the driver, Kevin D. Delaughter, 45, Natchez, Mississippi, he detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath and he appeared very unsteady on his feet. Delaughter advised the deputy that he had been drinking prior to driving.

After Delaughter performed poorly on a standard field sobriety test, he was arrested and transferred to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he refused to submit to a breath intoxilyzer test.

Delaughter, who was convicted of DWI 2nd in Calcasieu Parish in 2011, was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with DWI 3rd.

Judge Ron Ware set his bond at $8,500.

CPSO Cpl. Dennis Pippin was the arresting deputy on this case.
