Calcasieu Sheriff Arrests Armed Robber of Convenience Store

On Sunday, April 13, 2014, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a convenience store on Sen. J. Bennett Johnson Avenue, Lake Charles, in reference to an armed robbery.

Upon arrival deputies spoke with the store clerk who advised a man, later identified as Joshua L. Hickman, 21, 600 Avenue J, Apt. # 405, Lake Charles, entered the store brandishing a handgun and demanded money.

After stealing an undisclosed amount of money, Hickman fled the store in a car.

The Sheriff’s Office conducted an extensive search of the area but was unable to immediately locate Hickman. Approximately 5 hours later, deputies located Hickman and the car he was driving at his home, and apprehended him without incident.

During further investigation, deputies recovered a plastic bag containing a large amount of marijuana from inside Hickman’s car.

Hickman was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with first degree robbery; and possession of CDI (marijuana) with intent to distribute.

His bond is still pending.

CPSO Cpl. Casey Steech was the arresting deputy and Detective Brent Young is the lead investigator on this case.
