California State University Long Beach (CSULB) reportedly (according Gazettes.com) received the most applications of all the California State University system campuses for Fall 2014.
The initial electronic filing date for admission was November 30, 2013.
There were reportedly 56,281 applicants for first-time freshman and 25,910 transfer student applicants. This represents an increase of 667 more freshman applications and 902 more transfer applications over last year.
With international student applicants and other applications sent to the admissions office directly, there will be 83,594 students in the applicant pool for Fall 2014.
CSULB officials said there would be about 4,000 (7% of applicants) new first-time freshmen and 3,500 (13.5% of applicants) new transfer students admitted for fall 2014.
“The record number of applications indicates that prospective students and their parents recognize that CSULB offers a great educational value — a high quality, low cost education,” CSULB Inerim President, Donald Para said. “At the same time, it is a harsh reality that we will likely not admit more than 30,000 qualified students. From the 83,500 applications we received, we will enroll fewer than 8,000 new students.”
