Stanford, a unanimous choice to win the Pac-12 women's basketball title in the preseason conference coaches poll, is ranked No. 3 in the USA Today national preseason poll released Tuesday.
Cal, which returns three starters from a squad that reached the Final Four last season, is ranked No. 9 in the USA Today poll, six spots behind Stanford.
Connecticut is a near-unanimous choice as the No. 1 team in the USA Today poll, with Duke second, Stanford third, Tennessee fourth and Louisville fifth.
No. 19 Colorado and No. 25 UCLA are the only other Pac-12 teams in the USA Today top 25.
In the Pac-12 coaches poll released last week, Stanford received all 11 first-place votes for which it was eligible. Coaches can't vote for their their own team in that poll, and Stanford's Tara VanDerveer gave Cal its only first-place vote.
