Cal Fire Moving from San Andreas to Sonora

The Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Cal Fire station now in San Andreas, Calaveras County has been notified of an upcoming change to Sonora, Ca. The announcement was made on Feb. 28, 2014. The move however will not be a reality for several years, perhaps as much as five years in total.

The Cal Fire San Andreas site, is not wholly owned by the State, while the site in Sonora, is still fully owned by the State of California at 2 South Forest Rd, Sonora.

The site which will be utilized is a former Sonora Fire Department site, which also housed Cal Fire offices. County officials in Calaveras have chosen to send a letter to the State noting the negative economic impact on Calaveras County. The Sonora site will be much closer to the Columbia Air Attack base however, while the plan to move came after a ten year decision making process at the State level and has very little to do with local considerations.

There are approximately 20 Emergency Command Center and Administration Department employees will be relocated from San Andreas to Sonora when the plan is completed.
