Cake's Vince DiFiore interview before Palladium show part III

This is continued from parts I and parts II of the special interview with Vince DiFiore of the legendary group Cake. This interview occurred before the upcoming Saturday, February 18th show in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium.

W.E. Many of your songs seem to involve some level of parable as well as some level of irony, yet there is also a direct connection to the music itself that brings joy to the audience. How do you balance finding creative ways to continue to speak to the issues that matter to you while also generating mass appeal?

V.D. I guess it's like The Blues. You take an issue that is uncomfortable, and when set to music and lyrics, it is engaging and works as an emotional and mental release.

W.E. With the new album- you appeared on Leno and Kimmel (twice each), Conan, Jimmy Fallon, George Lopez and many more- what is the best aspect of being on TV and how has this experience evolved with changes in the industry?

V.D.  We've been very fortunate to make all the television appearances following the release of "Showroom." We didn't expect all the opportunities to come flooding in as they did. The television experience is unique because of how precisely everything runs. There is an incredible focus on the events of the afternoon. People are making it happen on the set and in the script, and we enjoy rising to the occasion, and that level of seriousness.

W.E. In today's broader cultural, political and economic climate are you still looking for a girl with a "Short Skirt and a lonnnnng Jacket?" and does CitiBank continue to be the best place for this sort of accidental meeting?

V.D. That song has resonated with a lot of people. I'm not sure how to put my finger on it. The best way to think of it is, as you stated earlier, thinking of it as a parable.
The girl is something else...the economy, the political give and take, the changing world view that is so ever on the move.

Thanks.
Vince
