Last night's first episode of "Cake Boss" finds Buddy Valastro in Atlantic City, N.J. at the Steel Pier with his family and enjoying the rides. Buddy met with the Catanoso brothers, Anthony, William and Charles a week earlier who want Buddy to make a giant carousel cake in tribute to the first stage of their renovation.
The workshop is abuzz with this design. To make it turn and be beautiful and survive the three-hour trip to Atlantic City will all be factored into the design.
At the same time, they are renovating Carlo's Bakery to make it more modern and fresh looking.
The cake is being constructed, but the horses are a problem. They constructed a mold, but the legs were too hard to complete. They found a way to secure the horses' legs, and it became much easier a task.
Meanwhile, in the bakery, the new glass cases were awesome. The merchandise was orderly, and the place looked fresh and modern.
The top of the carousel was put on and sure enough; the motor would not turn it. They had to disassemble it and find the problem. It was assembled improperly and at the moment it turns just fine. Now, they have to add the details. They used a parking cone covered in fondant to make the top, and it was awesome. It weighed about a ton, when completed and was just a fantastic tribute to the Steel Pier.
When they opened the truck, it was in pieces, a disaster. Buddy's heart was broken. There was no way they could fix this mess. He got on the phone and told his crew to fly down sheet cakes so that everyone could have a piece of cake. Buddy promised that when the renovations are complete; he will make the best cake for them that he could ever concoct. He will do it too, and fans and the Catanoso brothers will be waiting to see the "Cake Boss" come through with his promise.
