Cain Velasquez dominates Junior Dos Santos to regain the UFC heavyweight title (Video)

Not since the first meeting between Anderson Silva and Rich Franklin has a UFC champion been dominated like Junior Dos Santos was in last night's UFC 155 main event. Former champion Cain Velasquez regained the title he lost a little over thirteen months ago by defeating Dos Santos in dominant fashion.

The bout between Dos Santos and Velasquez was the main event of UFC 155. It was the second meeting between the two with Dos Santos knocking out Velasquez in sixty-five seconds of their first meeting at UFC on Fox 1.

Velasquez pressed forward from the very beginning with combos and takedown attempts. He caught Dos Santos early with a big right hand and threatened to end the fight early. Dos Santos overcame the winds but was still stuck in the storm and never seemed to recover from the first round.

Velasquez controlled every aspect of the fight. Dos Santos did a solid job fighting off takedowns but the pace was too much for him to keep up with. Velasquez leaned on Dos Santos and continually closed the distance. After twenty-five minutes of fighting the judges scored the fight 50-44, 50-43, and 50-45.

Velasquez, who seemingly has endless cardio, did start to fade in the fourth round but by that time Dos Santos was on fumes with no answers to the pressure. Velasquez showed that he is the top heavyweight in the UFC and is able to go the distance in a championship fight.

Velasquez was humble in victory while Dos Santos promised that he will be back to challenge for title soon.

"Cain Velasquez, like you said, I'm going to come back, and I'm going to take my belt again." Dos Santos told Joe Rogan.

It is hard to imagine anyone at heavyweight being able to keep up with the pace of Velasquez. Likely in line for the title next would be Alistair Overeem who is coming off of a suspension. This win brings Velasquez to 11-1 for his MMA career and he is now a two-time world champion.

UFC 155 aired live on pay per view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
