All roles are open for this summer production
Cain Park has set the dates of February 28 through March 2, 2014 for auditions for the summer production of “The Frogs”. The auditions will take place at the Cleveland Heights Community Center that is located at 1 Monticello Boulevard, Mayfield, Ohio. Callbacks will be Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m.
Originally taken from the Ancient Greek comedy “Aristophanes”, the current production was adapted by Stephen Sondheim and Burt Shevelove and later further adapted by Nathan Lane. All roles are open for actors age 18 to 76 and appointments will be accepted by calling (216) 291-2323 Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Martin Friedman will be the director with Nathan Motta as the musical director and Martin Céspedes handling choreography, Ron Newell as set designer, Trad A. Burns as lighting designer and Tesia Benson as costume designer.
Equity auditions will take place on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. Equity and Non-Equity auditions will also take place on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Non-Equity actors may audition on February 28, 2014 but no specific appointments will be reserved. Those Non-Equity actors wishing to audition on February 28 may call (216) 291-2323 and ask to be placed on a list of actors who will be auditioned between Equity audition appointments. There is free parking at the Cleveland Heights Community Center but can only be accessed from Monticello Boulevard.
Those wishing to audition are asked to memorize and prepare two 32-bar cuts in the style of “The Frogs” and bring sheet music in the proper key. An accompanist will be provided. No taped music will be allowed. A resume and current headshot is also required and will be retained by Cain Park.
There are salaried AEA (Actors’ Equity Association) contracts available and EMC (Equity Membership Candidate) credit will be granted. Non-Equity actors appearing in “The Frogs” will be paid a modest stipend and they also may be eligible for a performance internship. THE FROGS will run in the Alma Theater August 1-17 (preview July 31). Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m..
Cain Park, a municipally owned and operated summer arts park and one of the nation’s oldest landmark outdoor theaters entering its 76th season, is produced by the City of Cleveland Heights and is located on Superior Road between Lee and South Taylor roads.
