The San Francisco Giants received their 2012 World Series championship rings Sunday at AT&T Park, but were soundly defeated 14-3 by the St. Louis Cardinals.
Matt Cain (0-1) took the loss after the worst inning of his career, giving up nine earned runs in the fourth.
Angel Pagan and Pablo Sandoval both had one RBI, and Guillermo Quiroz drove in Brandon Belt in the ninth, but those were the only runs the Giants could muster.
Jose Mijares and Chad Gaudin stopped the Cards hit parade, but Javier Lopez and George Kontos gave up five runs between them in the late innings.
Rookie infielder Nick Noonan got his first career hit in the majors after six years in the Giants minor-league system.
Adam Wainwright (1-1) earned his first win of the year after striking out six in 7.0 innings.
NOTES: Aubrey Huff received a nice round of applause during the pre-game ceremony. ... Giants have now lost two of their last three. ... Angel Pagan had his fourth two-hit game of the year. ... Madison Bumgarner (1-0) faces Jorge De La Rosa and the Colorado Rockies tomorrow at AT&T Park.
