Italian team Cagliari, from Serie A, was sanctioned a fine of 25,000 euros this Tuesday for racist chants against Cameroon player Samuel Eto’o. Cagliari was hosting Inter Milan this past Sunday and lost the game by a goal that was scored by the ex-Barcelona player Samuel Eto’o.

Just three minutes into the game, the referee of the match was interrupted by racist chants in the northern corner of the stadium, Stadio Comunale Sant'Elia, which was mostly occupied by the Cagliari fans. Later, when the game continued, the Tifosi, Italian fans, commenced to yell out, “buu!”—a commonly known racist chant by the Tifosi whenever they want to heckle a player of dark color.

This isn’t the first time this happened in the Italian soccer league. Last December, soccer club team Juventus was punished with a fine, as well, when their fans howled racist chants against player, Mario Balotelli who is an Italian born Ghanaian. Balotelli, then, played on the same team that Samuel Eto’o plays for now, Inter Milan or the “Nerazurro” (meaning black-blue; the colors of Inter Milan).

Samuel Eto’o is a world class player for Cameroon that made his name in La Ligua (Spanish League). There he played for Real Madrid, Mallorca, and FC Barcelona. It was in Barcelona where he made his career shine the most so far.

This is Samuel’s second season with Inter Milan in Italy, and he has been very successful with the Nerazurro. Just last year, Samuel Eto’o won the UEFA Champions League, European international club team tournament, with Inter Milan.

Unfortunately for the Cagliari fans in Sardinia, Samuel Eto’o scored the only goal of the game and giving the guest team, Inter Milan, the victory. It was the 7th match of the season. After the match was finished, Inter ended up in 3rd place in the Serie A standings, and Cagliari ended up in 16th.
