Toledo, OH - Lawrence Mick, a 57 yr-old convicted felon, decided to shoot his caged dog in the head, neck and chest for "not settling down" according to his girlfriend, Melinda Perry. Despite repeatedly shooting his own dog multiple times, his girlfriend defends Mick stating he is "not an animal abuser - he loves animals". Clearly.
According to witness and neighbor, Melissa Compau, the dog, a German shepherd named Sarge, was quietly lying in his locked cage, when Lawrence Mick and another man, Adam Collins, came out and took turns shooting the dog. Sarge lay in the locked cage, howling as the men continued their brutal attack - shooting the confined dog six times.
The distraught neighbor phoned 911. Miraculously, Sarge survived the six-time shooting, and he is now being cared for by the city animal shelter.
Lawrence Mick, a convicted drug felon, is currently in the Lucas County Jail and he could receive 1-5 years in prison for discharging the 25 caliber pistol while possessing a felony conviction. The other man, Adam Collins, 35, pleaded no contest to the animal cruelty charges and was released on his on his own recognizance. He will stand trial on July 21.
Kudos to the neighbor for calling 911 and getting these 2 dangerous animal abusers arrested. She could have turned a blind eye to the situation, leaving Sarge to die in his cage. As for Lawrence Mick and Adam Collins, the courts will have their day and those believing in karma know that they will get what is coming to them for their despicable actions.
As for the Mick's girlfriend's claims that the dog was often-times "aggressive", perhaps that has something to do with the caliber of his owners. Ownership has an obvious (and huge) impact on the demeanor of a dog.

This doesn't suprise me , Larry Mick stabbed my brother 15 times and killed him 15 years ago and got away with it. I cannot believe this man is still out doing this and gettting away with it.

I urge law officials to make them a poster child and lock them up for a very long time. However OHIO is the WORST state for handing our punishment, it appears it is easier to to turn a blind eye. Thank goodness for Melissa and for the reporters who are getting this story out to the public. As for the girlfriend (that was a female, right?) what an idiot! She blew it right there in the interview. "The dog wasn't settling down for nothing". Wasn't settling down, that's justification for what they did?! Pray Ohio will use this opportunity make an example of these LOSERS and put them away for a long, long time.

the only good thing to come out of this will be that Sarge will be adopted and live his life with someone that loves and adores him once this story gets out across the country. I was linked to this article on Facebook, and was told that the shelter refuses to release Sarge to a rescue or adopter, despite pleas from a rescue that is ready, willing, and able to take him(this was posted by a person who works with the rescue in question). Please get the word out about this and don't let Sarge become another Oreo!
The Lucas County shelter is going to euthanize this poor dog on July30th. Even though a rescue has offered to take Sarge they will not release him because the shooter said the dog bit him. Please call the shelter, 419-213-2800, and beg them to spare this dog's life.
Just so everyone is clear... I called the shelter and Sarge has not been temp tested yet. No decision will be made regarding Sarge's future until he gets temp tested. If he passes they will hand him over to a rescue in 30 days. If you call the shelter please be polite as being rude will not help Sarge's situation.
I just talked to the shelter and they advise calling the Humane Society of Toledo. The # is 1-419-891-0705. Tell them not to kill this dog. I will be happy to come to Toledo and rescue him. I live in the Chicagoland area. Don't let this animal be killed. Even if he did bite the fecal matter that abused him Sarge can hardly be blamed. Being shot 6 times should be enough to allow Sarge to live the rest of his life happy and in peace. I gave my contact info to them so he has a place to go. Please help save this dog.
He was "aggressive." Lived his life locked in a cage with no love from these low lifes. Hope he'll finally get to enjoy the life he deserves after being born into the world as an innocent being subjected to a life with these pieces of garbage.

No matter what some men do or how vile they are there's always a woman somewhere who maintains that a villain is a 'good guy.' They're the reason some think women are stupid. Put the apes in a cage and shoot them!
I just spoke with someone at the shelter who said they will have to make an assessment on his behavior before they release him to a rescue, but will do anything they can do. She said even if an experienced rescue group takes full responsibility they are liable with any dog they release. Which boils down to just more red tape and lack of justice when it comes to animals. Please be polite when you call and if that dog should get destroyed, we'll make sure to circulate the story and video far and wide. It will be another stain on the state of Ohio and their treatment of innocent animals. They still have towns that gas pets to death. Trumbull County Pound in Warren, Ohio is one. Volunteers hear the animals scream as they slowly die. It's hard to believe it's the U.S. and the 21st century.
They deserve to never see the light of day again! Get rid of them. If they kill that poor Dog then OHIO is an even worse piece of S**T place to live than I thought. I mean common sense says that dog was defending himself. Give me a break, the neighbor even said that the dog wasn't doing anything when those jerks just came out and SHOT him in cold blood! Please save Sarge's life. It is not his fault that he was mistreated. I am sure that a farmer, or a person who has property, would take him in and let the poor dog live out it's life in safety, and peace.

I just read on Facebook that Sarge is to be put down and the shelter is not allowing any intervention or rescue of this poor dog! There is a group called the Nitro Foundation based in Ohio that is trying to change animal abuse laws in Ohio (which are a joke, by the way). Someone from that foundation shared on Facebook that they have a person who is willing to take Sarge, but the shelter won't release him. Sarge's hold date is up on July 30th and I plan to keep emailing and making phone calls until then on his behalf!

There is no reason to put Sarge down, look at his owners, there a joke, and I clearly put the onus on them, not a dog, this dog can not speak, we are there voices, clearly there has to be some other alternative then to euthanise this beautiful boy? There is a group of great animal trainers in Colorado who will go get Sarge and get him the training he needs and provide unconditional love for him. Put the 2 idiots who shot him UNDER the jail - save Sarge. He is WORTH IT! The shelter is going to KILL the dog for being a dog? Such a sad story :0(

RMDT.Rocky mountain dog trainers is trying to get sarge in case he has issues so he will not be put down. Since the owner said he is aggressive...and he could be if the owners were that abusive or kept him caged all the time etc.
Please do not let this guy be PTS. He would not be able to be adopted into a home right now most likely since he was an abuse case etc.
We want him to be released to RMDT so please make calls.
They work with aggressive dogs and use positive reinforcement and work miracles on dogs who would otherwise be pts.

I have two gorgeous GSD's and I can tell you, if this dog was aggressive to his person it was due to horrible abuse. These dogs would sooner die than hurt their person. I pray he gets out into rescue......PLEASE don't make him pay for what these two horrible sorr excuses for human beings did o him!!!!!! They should rott in jail!!!!!

1. I have had many dogs, some German Shepards. I can look into this dog's eyes and tell you he is not vicious. He does NOT need to be killed.
2. THE PERSON WHO WROTE THIS TRASH DESCRIBING THE ABUSER AS 'A CONVICTED DRUG FELON' SHOULD BE ASHAMED. THE USE OF A DRUG CONVICTION TO CLASSIFY A PERSON AS 'HORRIBLE, CRUEL LIAR' IS UNFORGIVABLE. THERE ARE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN PRISON IN AMERICA ON DRUG CHARGES, THE MAJORITY ARE NOT HORRIBLE CRUEL LIARS.

Where did you read "horrible, cruel liar" with the convicted drug felon statement? Are you interpreting your own description of the convicted drug felon - which, btw, this man is a convicted drug felon....you seem to be inputting your own added words/description with the cruel liar thing.
Please save this dog - - he is just an innocent animal! I DESPISE animal cruelty AND killing this poor dog AFTER what has ALREADY happened to him is an abomination against GOD.
