“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” 2011 was the second remake of the late 1960s & early '70s popular movie franchise where apes ruled the planets. The first remake attempt was with “Planet of the Apes” in 2001 directed by Tim Burton which starred Mark Walhberg. The worldwide movie box office total for that film was $362,211,740. “Rise” surpassed that with a $481,800,873 worldwide total. That film brought in more money at the Foreign box office with $305,040,688 than from the U.S. with $176,760,185. It was directed by Rupert Wyatt & starred James Franco, Andy Serkis plus Freida Pinto. The sequel film to “Rise” is titled, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” It is now in production & a short movie trailer was shown at the “Comic-Con” July 18 - 21, 2013 at San Diego, CA.
“Dawn” is directed by Matt Reeves & the screenplay writers are, Mark Bomback, Scott Z. Burns, Rick Jaffa plus Amanda Silver. It is based on the novel by Pierre Boulle called, "La Planète des Singes." Thomas M. Hammel serves as executive producer. There are four other producers attached, Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa plus Amanda Silver. 'Twentieth Century Fox' film corporation is the movie's distributor.
Andy Serkis is the only member of the original cast to return in this sequel. Andy of course voices “Caesar” the ape who started the beast revolution in “Rise.” Andy's body & his emotions are motion-captured digitally for the movie screen. Many fans believe Serkis deserved an Academy Award nomination for his role in “Rise.” The new cast includes, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Judy Greer plus Jason Clarke.
“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is scheduled for theatrical release in July of 2014. According to the official website of the 'Internet Movie Database' (IMDB). Director Matt Reeves was joined by his cast, Andy Serkis, Keri Russell & Jason Clarke at "Comic-Con.” They previewed a short snippit from “Dawn” where Jason Clarke's character is in a forest asking to speak to Caesar who is the leader of the apes. It is 10 years later & Caesar now has a family who tries to teach his army of apes human kindness from which he was raised. The humans however did not fare too well after the outbreak of the 'Simian Flu.' The humans have spent four years fighting the disease plus four more years battling each other. They want to reclaim their land from the apes who are not too happy with that idea.
