An up-and-coming chef is getting his first big chance to shine and a pasta chain is adding a fourth Metro location. Here are the details.
Chris Caes, who has served as a sous chef at Prairie Meadows and now the Wakonda Club, will be getting his first Executive Chef opportunity in the near future. New owners have taken over the Hotel Pattee in Perry, Iowa (about 25 minutes northwest of the Metro) and are hoping to reopen the historic hotel on November 1. Chef Caes, a graduate of the Iowa Culinary Institute, announced Tuesday that he will be leaving the Wakonda Club in the coming weeks to take over the kitchen at the hotel's restaurant. The Hotel Pattee originally opened in 1913 and went through an extensive renovation in 1997 that was rumored to cost more than $10 million. Check out one of Chef Caes's early recipes here.
In other restaurant news, Noodles and Company is set to open their fourth Metro restaurant on September 30. The Colorado-based chain's first Metro restaurant, located in Valley West Mall in West Des Moines, opened in late 2011. Their latest location is located at 6630 Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines. The chain offers made-to-order Asian, American, and Mediterranean dishes priced from $4 to $8.
