The Pizza and Beer Event, GC29YVF went off without a hitch last night at N 51° 03.986 W 114° 06.053 (that would be Ricky’s Restaurant, North Hill Mall for muggle-folk). Many thanks to One Bad Ant for organizing this meet and greet for geocachers of all types. Over the course of an evening, one could get to know a variety of people ranging from novice to experienced and from the school-age to the ’seasoned.’
Regardless of outward appearances, every person in attendance had one thing in common: a love of geocaching.
The stories were passed around the table as easily as salt and pepper. Stories of caches lost and found, of difficult places and strange containers, of great finds and good friends were the main themes.
Because of the relative anonymity of a cacher’s real name or appearance, these events are indispensable in realizing there is a person behind the username. And what a great bunch of warm-hearted people they are. Here are some of the new friends I had the pleasure to meet:
GeoWyrm: a group of two caught between the pleasure of caching and the necessity of moving. Handy solution for those in the same situation: solve puzzle caches instead and save them for a rainy day!
Desert Eagle10: friend of GeoWyrms’ who caught the bug and is caching-up quick!
Stone Wolf and Thunder Wolf: super caching couple whom hand out ‘muggle cards’ while out in the bush to onlookers. Great idea!
KinderKen and Sleepy hollow: in the geocaching world, superheroes do exist.
Rat Pack! and MuffinMan98: celebrating their 400th and 100th caches respectively. Also representing 2nd and 3rd generation geocachers (KinderKen being the 1st).
Hedgehog’s spoon: another great geocaching family with a name that barely fits in a micro.
Cdn Kitn: have you ever done geocaching without a GPS? She proved it can be done.
Lady_Katka and CodeGimp: recently engaged during a geocache find and hoping to have an ammo can wedding cake. Congratulations!
DanOCan: guardian of adopted caches.
Wiff&Hoos: graciously gave up her seat for a photo opportunity for others. Thank you!
GeoDreamCacher and Squirrel Nutcacher: father/daughter tag-team seen in photo above. Check out Squirrel’s Tic Tac Additac, GC27KMR for one unique find (and did I mention how cool Squirrel is?).
CanadianRockies: still waters run deep.
Kaerran: because the name just sounds cool.
PrairieSwan: look for an interview with this experienced cacher in late July.
Team Pawz: two cachers, two dogs, one big adventure.
VanIsleCacher: kicked off the island, now residing in Calgary. We’re glad to have you!
Kophykupp: this cacher has been complimented by others constantly and takes no credit for any of it.
dloubert: it’s a good name…better yet, it works!
Just_Ducky!!: look for guest posts on the Convoy event from her in the near future…
Joci: just started in March 2010 and has hidden 37 caches so far, wow!
d0kt0r_D: does anyone have a job for this doctor?
Peanutbutterbreadandjam: look for an upcoming interview with PB’n’J who is being featured as the “Geocacher of the Week.”
