So many of us in horror world have been keeping an eye on the third installment to the horror franchise created by Eli Roth Cabin Fever. The latest, Cabin Fever: Patient Zero was acquired last week for distribution by Image Entertainment. Directed by Kaare Andrews (Altitude) and starring Sean Astin (Goonies) and Currie Graham (Pompeii) the film will be released to limited theaters and on demand some time in the summer of 2014.
Cabin Fever: Patient Zero tells the story of a group of friends enjoying a bachelor weekend in a yacht in the Caribbean. As they run ashore to explore a remote island, they stumble upon an abandoned research facility, where a massacre from a deadly virus is unleashed. They must find a way to survive before the flesh eating disease consumes them all. Their answer – an uninfected survivor: “Patient Zero.”
While looking at the trailer you can tell this film is completely different from the original. Including a island and research facility really takes the story to a whole new plane. Cabin Fever really helped push the virus sub genre of horror into a new light. It’s impressive to see the franchise survive post Eli Roth and even original producer Evan Astrowsky is involved with the film. From what we can tell this seems to be more of a solid horror then the second entry but more than anything does a great job of continuing the tale. Who knows if the films keep going maybe one day we will see Roth return to the franchise. Look for a release date, new trailers and images on this soon!
