Striper blitz. Big fish are on the prowl. The lake is down 11.06 feet and 55 degrees. The main lake is clear and the creaks are stained to muddy due to runoff from heavy rains. The baitfish have moved back into the creeks and shallows and the trophy stripers 5-20 pounds are following them now through March. Cold nights and moderate daytime temperatures have the stripers up alive and kicking.
Tackle busting big fish
Nonstop coldwater stripers are active and hungry. Bluebird skies after days of rain. Scouring Lanier with big fat walking sticks, magnum Rapala, Zoom Super fluke, Long A Bomber, Redfin, Jerkshad, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, big crankbaits and ‘set the hook’ hard Georgia-style in shallow water.
Transition zones
Pre-spawn, post spawn happy hunting grounds off the current. Crazy for fishing, unplugging the kids and taking them to the best striper location, with enough fish to keep them busy hooking all day long, in a gently rocking boat will bring home some sleepy good anglers. Stripers meandering the shoreline beneath the surface, a weekend of fresh air, simplicity and ease.
New resolve
With the Sandy Hook School shooting settling off in the sunset, Lance Armstrong confessing dirty deeds done cheap, and the Notre Dame football player with the fake dead girlfriend looms in the headlines. The kids can talk about fishing and the natural beauty and how too much fishing can be wonderful. And some people really should go fishing more often.
