My wife, Karen and I clearly remember the Cabbage Patch Kids frenzy back in the 80’s. Karen recalled a fond memory of begging her grandmother for one. Due to high demand her grandmother could only find a fake one at the local flea market, but as long as she had one she didn’t care (plus her grandmother promised the real thing as soon as she was able to find one). Needless to say, when I received an invite to celebrate Cabbage Patch Kids 30th anniversary it put a nostalgic smile on both our faces and reminded us of our ages at the same time (LOL).
The event itself was a fun-filled day of activities that took place at the beautiful Humphrey’s at the Eventi Hotel in NYC. It was separated into eight different stations. The first of course was the most fun. My daughter got to adopt her very own Cabbage Patch Kid, one of the new Celebration ‘Kids, which features the doll dressed in fun, playful party themed clothes with funky hair streaks, a cupcake comb and of course her adoption papers and birth certificate.
After we picked out a doll we went through the gallery, which showcased 30 years of Cabbage Patch Kids. It was really cool to see all the dolls throughout the years. Then my daughter took her oath where she promised to take care of her Cabbage Patch Kid. From there we headed to the changing area station where my daughter learned how to put a diaper on her baby. Now it was time for a little pampering at the hair/beauty station. My daughter received some really cool and colorful hair extensions (blue, pink, green, yellow, purple) and some colored gems on her face.
Other stations included a birth certificate station where you could change the name and birth date of your baby, a story telling area and a photo op with a live Cabbage Patch Kid! During the event we all gathered around, put on our party hats and sang Happy Birthday to the Cabbage Patch Kids, blew out the candles and devoured some yummy colorful cupcakes.
In addition to the Cabbage Patch Kids® Celebration ‘Kids (MSRP $34.99, Ages 3+) there were two other new doll styles at the event. The Cabbage Patch Kids® Babies (MSRP $24.99, Ages 3+), which lets kids feed and dress their babies. The doll comes with either a magic disappearing-milk bottle or food bowl with spoon, removable bib and fashion. Also new doll for fall is the Cabbage Patch Kids® Cuties (MSRP $9.99, Ages 3+), smaller versions of the Cabbage Patch Dolls that come in a variety of animal themes such as a bear, bunny and cat.
