C2E2 kicks off this weekend in Chicago
Official Logo

Convention season is upon us Geekdom. That means every weekend there is a convention dedicated to pop culture going on somewhere in this crazy, multidimensional country. In particular, this weekend is host to one of the biggest Geekfests of the year, The Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, also known as C2E2. The event kicks off this Friday, April 25 and ends Sunday the 27 bringing with it a slew of über fans dressed as their favorite characters from the world of comics, movies, television, toys, anime, manga and video games, and so much more.
There's going to be special screenings, sneak peeks at upcoming shows, panels with celebrities and industry folk sharing; As well as exhibitors bringing the latest and greatest collectibles, autographs from artists, writer, celebs, and so much more and all gathered in one place. This year’s event is being held in the South Building of Chicago's McCormick Place.

So much to do and so much to see, let's break some of it down for you, and believe me that's a tough one. There's celebrities from so many industry's like TV, Film, Comic, Toys so here's just a taste.
Celebrities making an appearance in a panel of signing autographs:

K.C. Collins, Kris Holden-Ried and Rick Howland of “Lost Girl." Natalia Tena, Alfie Allen, Kristian Nairn of “Game Of Thrones." RJ Mitte (Walter White Jr.) of AMC series of “Breaking Bad.” Tyler Posey, Crystal Reed of the MTV series "Teen Wolf." The one and only, Stan Lee, creator of "Spider-Man" and the man behind the "Super Heroes of Marvel." WWE Wrestler Mick Foley, and Hulk Hogan will be in attendance. Chad Coleman (Tyreese) from AMC's “The Walking Dead” Allison Scagliotti, Eddie McClintock of SyFy’s “Wharehouse 13.”Grant Bowler, Tony Curran, Jaime Murray, Jesse Rath, from SyFy’s “Defiance.” And so many more, click here for the complete list.

One of the hot events of the convention is the C2E2 Crown Championships of Cosplay. This year they are giving away $10,000 in cash prizes. If you are not familiar with Cosplay, that's where people go all out and create and dress up as a character from TV, Film, Game, Book, etc. Then they show off their work, usually by doing a short type of musical skit on stage. Judges score them on how well they portray the character and the quality of their costume. Then there's also a twist. Some people take it even further crossing characters, creating new takes on characters, or even swapping genders to create new versions.

Events to check out:

Cosplayers will be everywhere, and my pick for finding in the crowd and saying hello to is Knightmage. He's been in most of the top DC super hero movies as an extra and he attends conventions all over the U.S. He also spends a great amount of time doing charity work. See his C2E2 preview costume pic here.
