A few months have passed since Eustace’s trip to Narnia; he is back in school where he and his friend Jill want to escape from the bullies. They open a door on the school grounds and find themselves in Aslan’s country. Eustace accidentally falls off a cliff and Aslan blows him to Narnia.

Aslan gives Jill the task of finding the lost Prince Rillian the son of King Caspian of Narnia. (Watch the video below to see the story of Rillian’s disappearance) To aid them in their quest he gives her four signs to follow but upon arriving in Narnia she botches the first sign, and Eustace and Jill are on their own in the quest to find Prince Rillian. They enlist the help of a few owls who help them meet a Marshwiggle named Puddleglum who joins them as they travel north into giant country.

The Silver Chair was the fourth book published of “The Chronicles of Narnia” series, however C.S. Lewis wrote The Horse and His Boy first. Chronologically it is the sixth book. Of the seven books this is my favorite.

Following God’s instructions is a major theme of the book. The instructions Aslan gives Jill do not make sense to her but she knows she has to follow them to complete the task. Jill however becomes distracted by other things and does not always follow them. We need to follow God’s instructions in our lives, and not be influenced by the world around us.

Note: This week I am highlighting “The Chronicles of Narnia” to read about the other books in the series click on their titles:

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Prince Caspian

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
