A year has passed since Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie traveled to Narnia through the wardrobe. Suddenly they are pulled back into Narnia where a thousand years have passed since Narnia time is different than ours and things have drastically changed since they left. Narnia has been invaded and talking beasts and all other non-human creatures have been driven into hiding.

Narnia is now ruled by the wicked King Miraz who wants to kill Price Caspian the rightful king. Caspian flees the castle to the forest where meets some of the creatures in hiding and starts an uprising against Miraz. Unfortunately things are not going well so he summons the four Pevensie children to Narnia, but first they have to find him which does not prove to be an easy task.

Prince Caspian is the second book written by C.S. Lewis of “The Chronicles of Narnia” series, but chronologically it comes fourth. Of the seven books it is my fourth favorite.

If you have seen the recent movie based on this book and have not yet read the book do not expect them to be the same. Apart from the basic storyline they are very different. This should not deter you from reading the book however, the movie actually made me like the book a little bit more than I had before.

While the Christian themes in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe are fairly obvious they are less obvious in Prince Caspian. Restoration is one theme as the Pevensies help Caspian return things to the way they used to be. Faith is another theme, while the children are trying to make their way to Caspian Aslan appears to show them where to go but only Lucy can see him. The others do not believe that she has seen him, but eventually have to put their faith in what they cannot see and follow Lucy. We cannot see God but as Christians we have to put our faith in him and follow him.

Note: This week I am highlighting the Chronicles of Narnia. Click here to read about The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader  The Silver Chair, The Horse and His Boy, The Magician's Nephew, and The Last Battle.

If there is a book you would like reviewed please write it in the Comments section.
