BYU football: Ex-Cougar QB John Beck will resurrect his pro career in Canada

See also

Remember John Beck? The nimbly footed, rocket armed quarterback from BYU who was the 40th pick in the 2nd round of the 2007 NFL Draft -- after he darted out of harm’s way to make that famous throw to Jonny Harline in the end zone to upset Utah on the last play of that historic rivalry game?

Well, Beck just signed a deal with the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League on Tuesday, March 4 -- so for all of you who said he was too old or not good enough to play football anymore you were wrong.

Beck hasn’t even played football in over a year. But the Deseret News is reporting that Beck is attempting to revive his pro career.

Look, if anyone can perform CPR on a play, a game, or even a career, it’s Beck -- once named all-conference and all-academic two years in a row while he was at academically stringent BYU.

As a pro, Beck’s numbers aren’t too shabby. Granted, he hasn’t played in the NFL since 2012 but he has thrown for 1,417 yards and three touchdowns with a QB rating of 67.2.

So if any washed-up former NFL-er can play and succeed in the CFL at the age of 32 against weaker secondaries, then Beck certainly can have his opportunity.

Naysayers can look at it from a Canadian perspective. An also-ran like Beck is considered a big-name QB in the Great White North -- because he's played in the NFL, according to an article in Tuesday's Yahoo! Sports Canada.

And while you may scoff at Canada's notion, also consider that many great Canadian quarterbacks have come back down to the NFL and had great success -- after reviving their playing careers up there.
