If a report on a former high school teammate of Utah Utes running back Harvey Langi is to be believed, Langi might soon be headed to BYU. Former Bingham High School teammate and good friend Kesni Tausinga, now a BYU defensive tackle, posted an interesting photo to his Instagram page on Monday, July 28.

On the photo were BYU defensive tackle Manoa Pikula--another friend of Langi--Langi himself and Tausinga, with Tausinga's caption proclaiming the newest edition (sic) to the team. While absolutely nothing has been confirmed by either Langi himself, the University of Utah or BYU, that picture opened the floodgates of speculation on local radio and TV.

While local newspapers have largely ignored such speculation, several did pick up on the story, including Langi--who is currently buried on the depth chart at Utah and just returned from an LDS mission to Florida--is reportedly unhappy about Ute coaches recommending that he move to the defensive side of the football due to the logjam of workhorses on the other side of the pigskin.

Langi was a highly touted recruit coming out of Bingham, where he helped lead the Miners to two state titles. Since his career at Bingham ended, however, Langi has only seen spot duty as a running back at Utah--which in part may have prompted him to leave on a church mission to Florida.

Hours after Langi completed his mission, a phone interview he had with former BYU star--and now sportscaster--Vai Sikahema was published in the church-owned Deseret News, prompting even more speculation.

Upon learning of Langi's intention to transfer to BYU--which Langi's mom categorically denied in the same Deseret News report--Utah Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham debunked the rumor.

BYU staff and coaches also refused to comment on the matter, so you have to wonder what BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall is thinking about Tausinga's recent post.

Tausinga--who just came off of his mission to Fiji--is currently in the mix for the starting nose tackle job. You'd think Bronco would want his players focusing on the upcoming season though--not whether a high school chum of Tausinga's was considering switching to your school.

Besides, BYU's stable of running backs is almost as large as Utah's, so Langi might be a fool thinking he can play his preferred position in Provo, anyhow. Tausinga's photo and caption will surely stoke the fires now--precipitating a move by Langi in one direction or the other. Will he stay at Utah or will he go to BYU? That appears to be the first of many questions he's left unanswered.
