A few years ago, I published an article about a couple of my favorite Los Angeles restaurants that allow you to bring your own bottle of wine without charging you a corkage fee. Since that time, I have received emails from Examiner readers and from other restaurants in the Los Angeles area informing me of their policy on waiving corkage fees. So, I have decided to update my "Bring Your own Bottle (BYOB)" list of restaurants. As of this writing, the following establishments do not charge a corkage fee at any time:
Houston's (several locations in Los Angeles area)
Blue Water Grill (first 2 bottles are free)
Water Grill (downtown Los Angeles)
Girasole (Larchmont Village)
My Two Cents (yummy soul food)
Hollywood Pies (best Chicago style deep dish pizza in Los Angeles)
Daily Grill (must join their Preferred Guest Club, but it is free to join)
The Ruth's Chris restaurant in Beverly Hills offers free corkage on Wednesday evenings. I am not sure if the other locations offer free corkage on certain week days, but always call ahead to all of these restaurants to confirm their current no-corkage policies.
When bringing my own bottle of wine, I typically will offer the server or sommelier a taste or glass of my wine if it is something that is special that I think that they will enjoy. I also leave a larger than normal tip if the server offers me an ice bucket and serves the wine to me during the dinner.
Send me an email if you know of any other Los Angeles area restaurants that waive or charge a nominal corkage fee.
