By The Horns

The lofo
Metal music has been springing up everywhere in Florida. South Florida, Orlando, Daytona and now metal has reached the Florida Gators. That's right, Gainesville now has a metal scene, and quite a catalog. Secrets She Kept and Hot Graves have been marking Gainesville as a metal place. Then again just think about it, it's home to a university- college kids, drinking and other college cliches, it makes perfect sense that metal can arrive and make a nest. When you win two Bowl championships in three years, your in store for a few victory parties. So what band embraces the attitude of Bowl championships and pure metal?

By The Horns is from Gainesville and straight from somewhere in metal. Sounding like a mix tape of different areas in metal, their sound is their own. They own it. In "Wrestless Wrath" you fall victim to a wrath of technical guitar work, which is completed by a solo that takes you to '80s Thrash, no breakdowns here. Speaking of such a time, think of Venom while listening to "Listen to The Void". The vocalist has that black metal anger in his voice, that summons the evil of black metal to touch on the Thrash guitars, making the drums the icing on the cake. Combining the death metal growls with the black metal lyrics, "Martyred For Nothing" is exactly what the anti-Religious wants. Virtually all their songs have similar technical riffs and drum lines. Their music is left up to the vocalist to decide to take the black or death metal approach in the feel.

While in Gainesville, be sure to look for the Gators of Gainesville metal, By The Horns. Their music works like that Gators football team, and their live performances will earn a place in the top half of the Florida live acts. Their debut album, Destroy The Horizon, is out now. Message them on Myspace to order, Be sure to also buy their shirt while your at it. Raise your horns for By The Horns!
