Buzz Aldrin became a national hero when he became the second man to walk on the moon in 1969, but finding "happily ever after" seems to be a much harder feat.
According to the celebrity Web site TMZ, the 81 year-old retired astronaut filed for a divorce from his third wife, Lois Driggs Aldrin, on Wednesday, citing “irreconcilable differences” in the divorce petition. The filing occurred in a Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Aldrin and Driggs exchanged their vows on on Valentine’s Day, 1988 - 23 years ago.
This will be Aldrin's third divorce. The first was from Joan Archer, with whom he had three children. The second was from Beverly Zile.
Aldrin recently experienced a fresh dose of fame when he competed on season 10 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and was partnered with performer Ashly DelGrosso. He was eliminated early in the competition, much to the dismay of fans, young and old, who considered him a rock star in his own rite.
Of course, Aldrin has thousands of followers in Huntsville, Ala. - home to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, where its field center stands at the forefront of the nation's space exploration mission, specializing in propulsion, engineering, project management and more.
As far as the divorce, it is uncertain what measures, if any, the couple took to save their marriage, but counseling can can be extremely helpful should you find yourself going through marital turmoil.
