Not sure which DVD to pull off the new release shelf? Need a new Blu-ray to show off in 1080p? Or maybe you're looking through the new releases on Netflix and don't know what to add to your queue?

Here are the new movies on DVD and Blu-ray this week:

The Karate Kid - Rent-it - It's nowhere near as good as the original version of the story about a kid who uses karate to better his life, so rent that if you haven't seen it, then maybe go see this reboot if you are still interested.

A Nightmare on Elm Street - Rent-it - The original Nightmare is one the best horror films ever, and though the sequels weren't great (except for Wes Craven's New Nightmare), this original is being rebooted and will be in theaters soon, so remind yourself how high the bar is set before venturing to theaters in a couple weeks.

Splice - Rent-it - Adrien Brody stars in this sci-fi-horror-thriller about scientists who tinker with DNA hybrids until something goes "terribly wrong" (as expected), but what comes next will pleasantly (and probably shockingly after seeing the laughable trailers) surprise you!

The Human Centipede - Rent-it - This film about two American girls on a European road trip who find themselves alone at night when their car breaks down in the woods defies logic in every sense, but then again those die-hard horror fans that will like this are already used to that.

Movies re-released on Blu-ray format this week:

Beauty and the Beast - Rent-it - This classic tale that teaches the world to not judge a book by its cover looks ironically beautiful on Blu-ray, and is nearly reason enough to buy.

The Last of the Mohicans - Buy-it - This action adventure film about three trappers protecting a British Colonel's daughters in the midst of the French and Indian War is currently at 13 on my top 100, and is certainly a film worth seeing (and hearing) on Blu-ray!

Grindhouse - Rent-it - This double feature was co-written, directed, and produced by Robert Rodriguez (Planet Terror) and Quentin Tarantino (Death Proof) and is definitely worth a once over - in fact, as gory as it is, you'll be lucky to make it once through, but stick it out for one of the best car chases in movie history in Deathproof.

The Maltese Falcon - Buy-it - Another one of those rare films still rated 100% on RottenTomatoes.com, this Humphrey Bogart mystery may be his best performance, and the suspense and drama combined with the directorial techniques make this one of the most influential films in Hollywood's history.

Mad Max - Rent-it - Or buy the entire trilogy, because this is one of the rare films where the sequel, and possibly even the threequel, is better than the first. But you have to see this story about a cop's revenge in "future" Australia before you move on through the post-apocalyptic journey.
