Not sure which DVD to pull off the new release shelf? Need a new Blu-ray to show off in 1080p? Or maybe you're looking through the new releases on Netflix and don't know what to add to your queue?
Here are the new movies on DVD and Blu-ray this week:
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - Rent-it (Dec 4th) - Expect god-awful performances from it's god-awful cast, but the story actually lacks cliche and the new director surprises with a new tone and style that should have been in the "saga" from the very start of this teen vampire love story.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice - Rent-it - Another decent Disney film from the creators of the National Treasure franchise and once again starring Nicolas Cage, this time as a master sorcerer trying to defend modern-day Manhattan.
Knight and Day - Rent-it- The breezy action (I know, that's like "jumbo shrimp") along with the cast (Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, AND Peter Sarsgaard) make this formulaic summer action film worth seeing, or possibly even owning on Blu-ray, but it's nothing special.
Vampires Suck - Skip-it - Believe it or not, this is a spoof on all the vampire films of the past decade, and it sucks just as bad as most of those films do.
Waking Sleeping Beauty - Rent-it - A personally, much-awaited documentary about the downfall of Disney animation in the mid 1980s until the artists turned out back-to-back blockbusters with The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King.
Going the Distance - Rent-it - The chemistry between Drew Barrymore and Justin Long in this long-distance romantic comedy is surprisingly strong in this overall weak story.
Movies re-released on Blu-ray format this week:
Meet the Parents - Rent-it - Robert De Niro is the father of son-in-law and male nurse Ben Stiller in this hilarious comedy that never gets old and has left the world with multiple ageless cultural references.
Meet the Fockers - Skip-it - A disappointing sequel that adds Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand to the family as the in-laws with the funny last name.
