The Buttonwood Tree had an exciting jazz music program with The Ricky Alfanso Group on July 30th at 8 p.m. at the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown. Ricky Alfanso is a trumpet player and singer that has a unique upbeat style. He has taught trumpet at Wesyleyan University in Middletown. The group plays music from many of the jazz greats. August the Buttonwood Tree Performing Arts Center continues with an exciting music program on weekends. On Friday, August 5th at 8 p.m. a variety of music from blue grass to regaee will be played. Some featured musician are Christopher Jankowski, Waylon Jones, Rodney Maxwell, Abraham Wilson and Matt Bienas. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for students. On August 6th solo artist Perry Mapp performs. He has performed at the Bushnell and many local schools. He is a singer, dancer, rapper and songwriter. Cost is $5 for this special performance. On August 12 OmarTamez Trio will perform at 8 p.m. Omar is top guitar player in Mexico with a combination of jazz and folk music. His group has Joe Fonda on bass and Steve Swell on trombone. On August 13, Richie Kay Music and Mirth will play melodies and music of traditional jazz music that will thrill you. It begins at 8 p.m. The cost for these two shows is $10.
Aligned with the Source a series of workshops will continue on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m to noon. Annaita is a spirtual and holistic healer from India that now lives in Middletown. She conducts workshops on Choices and Responsiblilites, Acceptance, Change and Letting Go. The Buttonwood Tree sells refreshements during performances. The book store is open for business with books and cd's most days and during music performances. There is an art gallery where different artists display and sell work in different mediums. North End Arts Rising that runs the Buttonwood Tree needs volunteersfor variety of tasks like running the bookstore, helping with refreshements and serving during musical performances, fundraising, and other tasks. Great experience for motivated high school or college students that want to gain valuable experience. Older volunteers retired or with some time are welcome to help out.
