The Buttonwood Theater in Middletown, CT continued its Saturday night musical presentations with the the John Funkhouser Trio on Saturday, 11-13. The band plays modern jazz that blends their own unique style and compositions. The push the limits of tradtional jazz with piano, bass and drums. The musicians in the trio were John Funkhouser on the piano, Greg Loughman on the bass, and Mike Connors on the drums. The trio presented an exciting program of varying jazz selections to enthusiastic crowd. The music is a blend of Charles Mingus, Frank Zappa and Igor Stratvinsky. The group was introduced at the Buttonwood Theater by a WSHU 91.7 radio staff member and had performed a concert earlier. North Ends Arts Rising Inc is a nonprofit arts organization that operates the Buttonwood Tree. The are responsible for organizing and funding many of the program the theater features. This Saturday 11-20 will feature Sonny & Perley a husband and wife musical team. They blend jazz, Brazilian, music to create a combination of Bossa Nova and American/French love songs. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $12. On Friday, 11-26 House of Moses Talking Book will perform at 8 p.m. This is a 6 member rhythm and blues band. Tammie Reiss is showing her oils and arylic expressionistic painting and landscapes unitl November 30th at the Buttonwood Tree. The art gallery/bookstore sells greeting cards, photographic prints, CD's, record albums, cassette tapes, paintings, and books. Hour vary so call for more information. And don't forget that the Buttonwood Tree always look for volunteers to host evening events or staff the gift shop and snack bar.
