The most excitement the sleepy New Hampshire town of Button Hollow usually sees is in the fall, when the town becomes inundated with tourists during leaf-peeping season. This fall, however, they are about to get more excitement than they bargained for when two of their own turn up dead.
Sheriff Jeff Ramsey has his hands full. In addition to dealing with two apparent suicides which seem more than a little suspicious, he has the elderly members of the Citizen’s Brigade to contend with, one of whom, Mrs. Anne Jolie Watson, takes matters into her own hands when she suspects her neighbor is up to no good. Trying to keep Anne Jolie out of harm’s way is a full time job…until Sheriff Ramsey discovers she may actually be onto something with her crazy theories about trouble in Button Hollow. And as if that weren’t enough to deal with, Sheriff Ramsey is also distracted by the possibility of having to leave Button Hollow when his wife, Sharon, heads down to Boston for a series of interviews with a prominent university for her dream job.
Despite some inconsistencies with life in New Hampshire, Loni Emmert and P.I. Barrington weave a delightful tale about a close-knit town reminiscent of Mayberry and Cabot Cove, with equally unforgettable characters always trying to do the right thing for their town. You will be drawn in to the story and the characters until the final page has been turned and the mystery solved.
Button Hollow Chronicles No. 1: The Leaf Peeper Murders is available August 2010 from Mainly Murder Press.
